Top Tips for Surviving Summer

It’s hot out there! We are in the midst of summer. By now you’ve cooled off in the pool, enjoyed some ice cream, maybe even stood in front of the open freezer door…anyone?

There are lots of ways to keep cool in the heat, but did you know there are some small things you can do every day to help keep your home cooler this summer?

  • First, if you have ceiling fans, keep them running. These help to keep the air in your home circulating and your unit running more efficiently. If you don’t have at least two ceiling fans in your home, consider installing a couple to help with the comfort level in your home.
  • If you have not yet installed a smart thermostat, it is proven to provide more efficiency to your home. This allows you to set certain temperatures for different times of day and the thermostat turns these on and off without you having to remember to do so.   • It’s easy to overlook your air filters. It’s kind of like out of sight out of mind sometimes. But, when you don’t change your air filters monthly you are allowing allergens to build up in your home and reducing your air quality. An easy way to do this is to set a reminder on your phone to change your air filter on the 1st of each month.

My unit is not cooling/heating, what should I check first?

Check the circuit breaker. Often, a simple tripped breaker may be the answer. Turn back on to reset and wait about 30 minutes to see if cool/warm air is flowing.

I think my system is frozen, what do I do now?

Check for ice on or around your unit. If icing has occurred, turn off the unit to allow it to defrost. This may take 4-6 hours.

My utility bill is higher than normal this month, any idea why?

Due to extreme temperatures outside, your unit may run more to keep your home at the comfort level you have set on your thermostat. New, large appliances may also cause a spike in your bill. First, consider these things and check with your utility company about possible rate increases.
