Tips for Staying Warm Without Breaking the Bank

Brrrrr! It seems to have turned to winter overnight. Here are a few tips to help keep your home warm and your heating bill in check this winter.

Programmable or Wi-Fi Thermostat
If you’ve not yet invested in a programmable or Wi-Fi thermostat, what are you waiting for? This is one of the best ways to maintain control over the temperature in your home. If you have a programmable or Wi-Fi thermostat, set your temperature 5 degrees cooler for when you are away than when you are at home. This allows for the system to cycle less while no one is at home and still keep your home at a comfortable temperature. We offer several smart thermostats, click here to request information.

Change Your Filters
Set a reminder on your calendar to change your air filters once a month. If you don’t change your filters on a regular basis, debris and allergens can build up and restrict the distribution of air flow throughout your home. The old saying “you get what you pay for” is aptly true here. Air filters should always be accordion/pleated style like the ones pictured here to provide you the best filtration.

Participate in a Maintenance Plan
We get regular check-ups at the doctor to insure our health is a priority. The same can be said for your heating and air system. Regular routine maintenance is essential to the health of your system and the comfort level in your home. In an earlier blog, I posted about what the bi-annual maintenance includes, you can read that here. Our maintenance program is the Long Comfort Club and our members receive priority 24/7 service, 20% discount on repairs, two annual maintenances and many more benefits! The Season of Giving

As we come off the food coma that was Thanksgiving and head into the giving season of Christmas, it’s really got me thinking, what am I most thankful for? And, how can I give more to others?

When asked what we are thankful for, most of us would quickly say our families, our job, friends and neighbors. Maybe it’s our church or a good report from the doctor. But, often, it’s the things we take for granted that can go unrecognized like our home, food to eat, and clothes for our family.

Unfortunately, there are so many in our community who are without these basic items every day. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there are nearly 4000 people in our state alone without a home and the basic necessities.

A few years ago we became acquainted with an organization in our community that helps the homeless in the Upstate of South Carolina and as an organization we began to seek ways we could help them. The Lot Project is located in Anderson, South Carolina and gives those in our community who are in need a safe place to receive food, clothing, and personal care items. I really hope you will check out their website and see how you can give to this incredible ministry. They accept donations, but also love to have volunteers!

Now, how can we all give more to others? I know, I know, we’re all busy, how can we possibly add one more thing to our plates during this holiday season? Trust me I (and you) CAN. All we have to do is be intentional about looking out for others, offering a helping hand, and giving even when we think we have nothing to give.

We all have something to give. Maybe it will be a kind gesture. Maybe it will be dropping a meal off to someone at the red light who is standing in traffic. Or, maybe it’s through an organization like The Lot Project. Wherever and whenever you see a need, don’t wait for someone else to step in. Be that person who steps up to make a difference.

I can promise that you, and they, won’t regret it.

Top Tips for Surviving Summer

It’s hot out there! We are in the midst of summer. By now you’ve cooled off in the pool, enjoyed some ice cream, maybe even stood in front of the open freezer door…anyone? There are lots of ways to keep cool in the heat, but did you know there are some small things you can do every day to help keep your home cooler this summer?

  • First, if you have ceiling fans, keep them running. These help to keep the air in your home circulating and your unit running more efficiently. If you don’t have at least two ceiling fans in your home, consider installing a couple to help with the comfort level in your home.
  • If you have not yet installed a smart thermostat, it is proven to provide more efficiency to your home. This allows you to set certain temperatures for different times of day and the thermostat turns these on and off without you having to remember to do so. We are currently offering a special on Lyric Wi-Fi smart thermostats for only $175! Just mention our website when you call the office at 864-213-9899.
  • It’s easy to overlook your air filters. It’s kind of like out of sight out of mind sometimes. But, when you don’t change your air filters monthly you are allowing allergens to build up in your home and reducing your air quality. An easy way to do this is to set a reminder on your phone to change your air filter on the 1st of each month.

Finally, people are often asking us to share our top tips for troubleshooting. Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions we receive. And, remember, for all of these needs and more, we here for you 24/7. Call us anytime at 864-213-9899:

My unit is not cooling/heating, what should I check first?

Check the circuit breaker. Often, a simple tripped breaker may be the answer. Turn back on to reset and wait about 30 minutes to see if cool/warm air is flowing.

I think my system is frozen, what do I do now?

Check for ice on or around your unit. If icing has occurred, turn off the unit to allow it to defrost. This may take 4-6 hours.

My utility bill is higher than normal this month, any idea why?

Due to extreme temperatures outside, your unit may run more to keep your home at the comfort level you have set on your thermostat. New, large appliances may also cause a spike in your bill. First, consider these things and check with your utility company about possible rate increases.

An Interview with Our Owner, Andy Long

Andy, it is finally Spring! Tell us, why is it important to consider having our Spring Maintenance completed now?

There are many reasons to do this. First, it’s going to save you money in the long run by preventing breakdowns, reducing your energy bill and extending the life of your system. Second, it’s going to greatly improve your air quality. There are so many allergens like dander, dust mites, pollen and mold that cloud our air quality. A visit by our technicians can help insure these things are taken care of before you are using your system more frequently in the summer.

How much does this cost and what does this service include?

Right now, we are running a special for this service. For one system, it’s only $99 and for two systems it’s only $149. This is a savings of 25% and covers you for six months. This includes a lot of benefits like priority service scheduling, 15% off any needed repairs, a 1-year labor warranty on all repairs and an 18-point inspection.

Approximately how long will it take out of my day to have this done?

This really depends on what is discovered during the inspection, but our technicians are thorough and efficient.

Will someone from the office call me ahead of time to let me know they are on their way?

Yes, absolutely. We know your time is valuable and want to respect that. We will give you a phone call 30 minutes before arrival.

I see you offer an exclusive membership in the Long Comfort Club, formerly known as the Maintenance Club. Can you tell me more about what this includes and why it would be beneficial to me?

This is a great value to our customers. This helps to insure you are continually on our radar for preventative maintenance and you are considered top priority for repairs and other maintenance. With this exclusive membership, you’ll also receive 20% off repairs, two years labor warranty on all repairs, two 18-point inspections annually, drain cleaning and free refrigerant up to 1 pound. You also receive our reduced diagnostic fee of $69 24 hours a day. This is only $216 for the year for one system.

This is such great information! If I want to schedule my Spring Cooling Maintenance or become a member of the Long Comfort Club, what do I need to do?

Just call our office 864-213-9899 or visit our club page here on the website.
